Don’t Give Up

Source: Anonymous

One day I decided to quit.

I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. .. I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
“God”, I asked, “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”
His answer surprised me…

“Look around”, He said. “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?”
“Yes”, I replied.
“When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them.
I gave them light.
I gave them water.
The fern quickly grew from the earth.
Its brilliant green covered the floor.
Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.
And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. He said.

“In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.
In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would
not quit.” He said.

“Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared
to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. ..But just 6
months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.
It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.
I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.”
He asked me. “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots”.

“I would not quit on the bamboo.
I will never quit on you.”
“Don’t compare yourself to others.”
He said.
“The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern.
Yet they both make the forest beautiful.”

“Your time will come”, God said to me.
“You will rise high”
“How high should I rise?”
I asked.
“How high will the bamboo rise?” He asked in return.
“As high as it can?” I questioned.

“Yes.” He said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.”
I left the forest and brought back this story.
I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you.
Never, Never, Never Give up.
For the Christian Prayer is not an option but an opportunity.

Don’t tell the Lord how big the problem is,
tell the problem how Great the Lord is!

Jesus Loves His Child

Jesus Loves His Children

My Child,

With eternal love I have loved you, thus, I have protected you from many evil temptations that occupied you, and I had compassion upon you by My blessing and choice. I have granted you and given you wisdom, that guided you in intense situations, I took care of your matters, and granted you overwhelming happiness. I strengthened you when you were weak, and from many tribulations I have delivered you. I taught you, I have advised you, and still in front of Me, this is nothing. So do not thank Me for it, for My love demands that I do this for your sake.

You rejected me, swore at me, lied to me, thought evil against me, denied me in front of people, belittled Me in the eyes of My enemies. I was obedient in your sight, Yet you caused Me misery. You left My ways, you resisted Me, and made Me bare what I did not want from you. You made my sadness unutterable, and embarrassed Me in numerous situations. All this I will not count nor consider, for you did it out of ignorance and in unbelief.

I came down from My Kingdom taking the form of a servant, and became like man, and was found in Divinity. Like man, became hungry and could not find that which would fill me, when from Me came all the blessings. I was thirsty, and could not find the one to give Me drink, even though I created the seas. No place to lay My head, though I have created holes for foxes and the air for the birds.

I was saddened for you, and wept much for you, I suffered bitterly for your sake. And what did I get in the end? I was captured, and falsely accused, even though I committed no evil, and in My mouth no lie could be found.

They slapped Me, and with lashes torn at My body, and even My hair they grabbed with violence. They ripped My garment and mocked Me. They forced a crown of thorns on My head. They bowed to Me in mockery, they spit on My face and with a rod they hit Me on the head, till the thorns dug deep within my skull. AND ON THE WOOD OF SHAME THREW ME. They nailed My hands and My feet and lifted Me for all to see. And I was as a lamb who was slaughtered. Silent was I in front of all, and opened My mouth not as if I was cut out of the world and became like vapor. All My bones were separated. My heart became like a candle, melted among my emotions. They gave Me vinegar to drink, along with its bitter taste. They cursed Me, so I blessed them, and asked for their forgiveness and granted them mercy. All this I endured because I love you. Do you then question My love?

Jesus and Child

Come close and do not fear, give Me your heart and I will return it to you like new. Give Me your life, so that I may move you from darkness to the light and from death to life. I will make you a child of God and share My inheritance and My Kingdom with you. All this, so that your sadness may become joy, and give you hope, your worries into gains, and your fear into peace. I will put a new hymn in your mouth.

I will carry you, and in the days of hunger feed you. So do not worry or fear tonight, and you shall succeed in your path. You shall not be tormented in the process. And on your side thousands shall fall, and to your right dominions will tremble. FOR I AM WITH YOU. Therefore, I will deliver you, and carry you and bring you into My heart and I will put My left arm under your head, and My right arm will embrace you. I will guard you from him who hates good, and I will return his poison back to him and bring him under your feet. And thus, I shall conclude your life, with righteous days, blessed and joyful. And to My glory I will bring you. By My side you will find richness, and comfort and peace.

Do you still question My love?

Come now and do not reject my invitation this time, for I am waiting for you.

Your Love, Jesus.

Satan’s Meeting

As this year’s Lent is almost over and I realized how it has just passed by, I have decided to spend this last week of Lent and Holy Week differently.  I have been caught up with many things and I have been busy!  Like many of us, I needed a wake up call.  Well, a good friend shared this video with me and now I’m sharing it with you…

A Carrot, An Egg, and A Cup Of Coffee

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up; she was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ‘Tell me what you see.’

‘Carrots, eggs, and coffee,’ she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, ‘What does it mean, mother?’

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

‘Which are you?’ she asked her daughter… ‘When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship, or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can’t go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.

Live your life so at the end, you’re the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

May we all be COFFEE!!!!!!!

Our Father Dialogue

Just another email forward I received… It seems all the forwards I am getting lately are awesome!  So here is me sharing again…

———————————

Our Father who art in heaven…

“YES?”

Don’t disturb me.  I am praying.

“BUT YOU CALLED ME!”

Called you?  I didn’t call you.  I am praying to Our Father who art in heaven.

“THERE!  YOU DID IT AGAIN!”

But I didn’t mean anything by it.  I was, you know, just saying my prayers for the day.  I always say the Lord’s Prayer.  It makes me feel good… sort of like getting a job done.

“ALL RIGHT.  GO ON.”

Hallowed be Thy Name…

“HOLD IT.  WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?”

By what?

“BY HALLOWED BE THY NAME.”

I mean… it means…  Good grief!  I don’t know what it means…  How should I know?  It’s just part of the prayer.  By the way, what does it mean?

“IT MEANS HONORED, HOLY, AND WONDERFUL.”

Ah!  That makes sense.  I never thought about what hallowed meant before.  …Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as in heaven…

“DO YOU REALLY MEAN THAT?”

Of course!  Why not?

“WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?”

Do?  Nothing.  I suppose I just think it would be rather good if you got control of everything down here as you have up there.

“HAVE I GOT CONTROL OVER YOU?”

Well, I do go to church.

“THAT ISN’T WHAT I ASKED YOU!  WHAT ABOUT THE HABIT OF LAZINESS YOU HAVE?  AND YOU’RE BAD TEMPER?  YOU’VE REALLY GOT A PROBLEM THERE, YOU KNOW.  AND THEN, THERE’S THE WAY YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY ALL ON YOURSELF.  AND WHAT ABOUT THE KIND OF BOOKS YOU READ?”

Stop picking on me!  I am just as good as some of the rest of those hypocrites down at the church.

“EXCUSE ME.  I THOUGHT YOU WERE PRAYING FOR MY WILL TO BE DONE.  IF THAT IS TO HAPPEN, IT WILL HAVE TO START WITH THE ONES WHO ARE REALLY PRAYING FOR IT.  LIKE YOU, FOR EXAMPLE.”

Oh, all right!  I guess I do have some habits now that you mention them.  I could probably name some others.

“SO COULD I!”

I haven’t thought about it very much until now.  But I really would like to cut out some of those things.  I would like to, you know, be really free.

“GOOD.  NOW WE’RE GETTING SOMEWHERE.  WE’LL WORK TOGETHER, YOU AND I. SOME VICTORIES CAN REALLY BE WON.  I AM PROUD OF YOU.”

Look, Lord, I need to finish up here.  This is taking a lot longer than it usually does.  Give us this day our daily bread…

“YOU NEED TO CUT OUT THE BREAD.  YOU’RE OVERWEIGHT AS IT IS.”

Hey, wait a minute.  What is this?  Criticize me, eh?  Here I was doing my religious duty and all of a sudden you break in and remind me of all my habits.

“PRAYING IS A DANGEROUS THING.  YOU COULD WIND UP CHANGED, YOU KNOW.  THAT’S WHAT I’M TRYING TO GET ACROSS TO YOU.  YOU CALLED ME AND HERE I AM.  IT’S TOO LATE TO STOP NOW.  KEEP ON PRAYING.  I’M INTERESTED IN THE NEXT PART OF YOUR PRAYER.  WELL, GO ON.”

I’m scared to.

“SCARED OF WHAT?”

I know what you’ll say.

“TRY ME AND SEE.”

Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.

“WHAT ABOUT BILL?”

See!  I knew you would bring him up.  Why, Lord?  He told lies about me, cheated me of some money.  He never paid back the debt that he owes me.  I’ve sworn to get even with him.

“BUT YOUR PRAYER?  WHAT ABOUT YOUR PRAYER?”

I didn’t mean it.

“WELL, AT LEAST YOU ARE HONEST.  BUT IT’S NOT MUCH FUN CARRYING THAT LOAD OF BITTERNESS AROUND INSIDE YOU, IS IT?”

No, but I’ll feel better as soon as I get even with that fella.  Boy, have I got some plans for old Bill.  He’ll wish he never did me any harm.

“YOU WON’T FEEL ANY BETTER.  YOU’LL FEEL WORSE.  REVENGE ISN’T SWEET.  THINK OF HOW UNHAPPY YOU ALREADY ARE.  BUT I CAN CHANGE ALL THAT.”

You can?  How?

“FORGIVE BILL.  THEN I’LL FORGIVE YOU.  THEN THE HATE AND SIN WILL BE BILL’S PROBLEM AND NOT YOURS.  YOU MAY LOSE THE MONEY BUT YOU WILL HAVE SETTLED YOUR HEART.”

But Lord, I can’t forgive Bill.

“THEN I CAN’T FORGIVE YOU.”

Oh… you’re right…  You always are.  And more than I want revenge on Bill, I want to be right with you.  All right, all right, I forgive him.  Help him to find the right road in life, Lord.  He’s bound to be awfully miserable, now that I think about it.  Anybody who goes around doing the things he does to others has to be mixed up inside.  Someway, somehow, show him the right way.

“THERE, NOW, WONDERFUL.  HOW DO YOU FEEL?”

Hmm…  Well, not bad.  Not bad at all.  In fact, I feel quite tremendous.  You know, I don’t think I’ll have to go to bed tense tonight for the first time since I can remember.  Maybe I won’t be so tired from now on because I’m not getting enough rest.

“YOU’RE NOT THROUGH WITH YOUR PRAYERS.  GO ON.”

Oh, all right…  And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil…

“GOOD, GOOD.  I’LL DO JUST THAT.  JUST DON’T PUT YOURSELF IN A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN BE TEMPTED.”

What do you mean by that?

“STOP HANGING AROUND THE MAGAZINE STAND WHERE PLAYBOY IS SOLD.  CHANGE SOME OF YOUR FRIENDSHIPS.  SOME OF YOUR SO-CALLED FRIENDS ARE BEGINNING TO GET TO YOU.  THEY’LL HAVE YOU COMPLETELY INVOLVED IN WRONG THINGS BEFORE LONG.  DON’T BE FOOLED.  THEY ADVERTISE THAT THEY’RE HAVING FUN, BUT FOR YOU, IT WOULD BE RUIN.  DON’T USE ME FOR AN ESCAPE HATCH.”

I don’t understand you…

“YES, YOU DO.  YOU’VE DONE IT A LOT OF TIMES.  YOU GET CAUGHT IN A BAD SITUATION, YOU GET INTO TROUBLE, AND THEN COME RUNNING TO ME: ‘LORD, HELP ME GET OUT OF THIS MESS AND I PROMISE YOU I’LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN.’  YOU REMEMBER SOME OF THOSE BARGAINS YOU TRIED TO MAKE WITH ME?”

Yes, and I’m ashamed.  Lord, I really am.

“WHICH BARGAINS ARE YOU REMEMBERING?”

Well, when the woman next door saw me coming out of the video games centre.  I remember telling you:  “O God, don’t let her tell my mother where I’ve been.  I promise I’ll be in church every Sunday.”

“SHE DIDN’T TELL YOUR MOTHER BUT YOU DIDN’T KEEP YOUR PROMISE, DID YOU?”

I’m sorry, Lord.  I really am.  Up till now, I thought that just praying was enough.  I didn’t expect you to answer like this.

“GO AHEAD AND FINISH YOUR PRAYER.”

For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

“DO YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BRING ME GLORY?  WHAT WOULD REALLY MAKE ME HAPPY?”

No, but I’d like to know.  I want now to please you.  Now I can see how good it would be to be a real follower of you.

“YOU JUST ANSWERED THE QUESTION.”

I did?

“YES.  THE THING THAT WOULD BRING ME GLORY IS TO HAVE PEOPLE LIKE YOU TRULY LOVE AND FOLLOW ME.  AND I SEE THAT HAPPENING BETWEEN US.  NOW THAT SOME OF THESE OLD SINS ARE EXPOSED AND OUT OF THE WAY, WELL, THERE’S NO TELLING WHAT WE CAN DO TOGETHER.”

Lord, let’s see what you can make of me, okay?

“YES.  LET’S SEE…”

God can change us… but are we willing to let Him?  Are we willing to go through the refiner’s fire, to die to ourselves and offer ourselves as living sacrifices to the Lord?

The Wisdom in Hot Chocolate

Author: Unknown

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired.  During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives.  Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of cups – porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite – telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate.  When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said:

“Notice that all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.  While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.  The cup that you’re drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.  What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup; but you consciously went for the best cups.  And then you began eyeing each other’s cups…”

He then pauses and says, “Now consider this:

Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money, and position in society are the cups.

They are just tools to hold and contain life.

The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate God has provided us.

God makes the hot chocolate, man chooses the cups.

The happiest people don’t have the best of everything.

They just make the best of everything that they have.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

And enjoy your hot chocolate!!”

——————————-+——————————-

Yet another email forward that got me thinking…

What cup would I have chosen?  Personally, I don’t think that I would have picked the most expensive crystal cup with the gold trim, but I know I would not have picked the plain cheap one… but hopefully something in between; something that was definitely clean.  Anyway, as the analogy goes… that is not what I do many times in life.  Many times I would choose to buy something that is more expensive or flashy yet does the same function as the cheap one.  Why is it that because we have money, we think we must spend it?  Why not spend what you need to and give what you don’t need to those who need, those who have nothing?  I pray that the Lord would give me the wisdom to not spend mindlessly as we are brainwashed to do, to know that I don’t need everything the media tells me I need, and to know the difference between something that I need or something I want.

Donut Short Story

I never read or send any forwards that I receive but for some reason unknown to me I read this one and I loved it and now I’m sharing…

——————————-

Author – Unknown

There was a certain Professor of religion named Dr. Christianson, a studious man who taught at a small college in the western United States.

Dr. Christianson taught the required survey course in Christianity at this particular institution. Every student was required to take this course his freshman year, regardless of his or her major.

Although Dr. Christianson tried hard to communicate the essence of the gospel in his class, he found that most of his students looked upon the course as nothing but required drudgery.

Despite his best efforts, most students refused to take Christianity seriously.

This year, Dr. Christianson had a special student named Steve. Steve was only a freshman, but was studying with the intent of going on to seminary for the ministry. Steve was popular, he was well liked, and he was an imposing physical specimen. He was now the starting center on the school football team, and was the best student in the professor’s class.

One day, Dr. Christanson asked Steve to stay after class so he could talk with him. “How many push-ups can you do?”

Steve said, “I do about 200 every night.” “200? That’s pretty good, Steve,” Dr. Christianson said. “Do you think you could do 300?”

Steve replied, “I don’t know…I’ve never done 300 at a time.”
“Do you think you could?” again asked Dr. Christianson.
“Well, I can try,” said Steve.

“Can you do 300 in sets of 10? I have a class project in mind and I need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work. Can you do it? I need you to tell me you can do it” said the professor.

Steve said, “well..I think I can..yeah, I can do it.”
Dr. Christianson said, “Good! I need you to do this on Friday. Let me explain what I have in mind.”

Friday came and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the room. When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of donuts. No, these weren’t the normal kinds of donuts, they were the extra fancy BIG kind, with cream centers and frosting swirls. Everyone was pretty excited it was Friday, the last class of the day, and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in Dr. Christianson’s class.

Dr. Christianson went to the first girl in the first row and asked, “Cynthia, do you want to have one of these donuts?” Cynthia said, “Yes.”

Dr. Christianson then turned to Steve and asked, “Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Cynthia can have a doughnut?”

“Sure!” Steve jumped down from his desk to do a quick ten. Then Steve again sat in his desk. Dr. Christianson put a doughut on Cynthia’s desk.

Dr. Christianson then went to Joe, the next person, and asked, “Joe, do you want a doughnut?” Joe said, “Yes.”

Dr. Christianson asked, “Steve would you do ten push-ups so Joe can have a doughnut?”

Steve did ten push-ups, Joe got a doughnut. And so it went, down the first aisle, Steve did ten push-ups for every person before they got their doughnut.

Walking down the second aisle, Dr. Christianson came to Scott. Scott was on the basketball team, and in as good condition as Steve. He was very popular and never lacking for female companionship.

When the professor asked, “Scott do you want a doughnut?” Scott’s reply was, “Well, can I do my own push-ups?”

Dr. Christianson said, “No, Steve has to do them.” Then Scott said, “Well, I don’t want one then.”

Dr. Christianson shrugged and then turned to Steve and asked, “Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Scott can have a doughnut he doesn’t want?”

With perfect obedience Steve started to do ten push-ups.

Scott said, “HEY! I said i didn’t want one!” Dr. Christianson said, “Look!, this is my classroom, my class, my desks, and these are my doughnuts. Just leave it on the desk if you don’t want it.” And he put a doughnut on Scott’s desk.

Now by this time, Steve had begun to slow down a little. He just stayed on the floor between sets because it took too much effort to be getting up and down. You could start to see a little perspiration coming out around his brow.

Dr. Christianson started down the third row. Now the students were beginning to get a little angry. Dr. Christianson asked Jenny, “Jenny, do you want a doughnut?” Sternly, Jenny said, “No.”

Then Dr. Christianson asked Steve, “Steve, would you do ten more push-ups so Jenny can have a doughnut that she doesn’t want?”

Steve did ten… Jenny got a doughnut.
By now, a growing sense of uneasiness filled the room. The students were beginning to say, “No!” and there were all these un-eaten doughnuts on the desks.

Steve also had to really put forth a lot of extra effort to get these push-ups done for each doughnut. There began to be a small pool of sweat on the floor beneath his face, his arms and brow were beginning to get red because of the physical effort involved. Dr. Christianson asked Robert, who was the most vocal un-believer in the class, to watch Steve do each push up to make sure he did the full ten push-ups in a set because he couldn’t bear to watch all of Steve’s work for all of those uneaten doughnuts. He sent Robert over to where Steve was so Robert could count the set and watch Steve closely.

Dr. Christianson started down the fourth row. During his class, however, some students from other classes had wandered in and sat down on the steps along the radiators that ran down the sides of the room. When the professor realized this, he did a quick count and saw that now there were 34 students in the room. He started to worry if Steve would be able to make it.

Dr. Christianson went on to the next person and the next and the next. Near the end of that row, Steve was really having a rough time. He was taking a lot more time to complete each set.

Steve asked Dr. Christianson, “Do I have to make my nose touch on each one?” Dr. Christianson thought for a moment, “Well, they’re your push ups. You are in charge now. You can do them any way that you want.” And Dr. Christianson went on.

A few moments later, Jason, a recent transfer student, came to the room and was about to come in when all the students yelled in one voice, “NO! Dont come in! STay out!” Jason didnt know what was going on.

Steve picked up his head and said, “No, let him come.”

Professor Christianson said, “You realize that if Jason comes in you will have to do ten push-ups for him?”

Steve said, “Yes, let him come in. Give him a doughnut.” Dr. Christianson said, “Okay Steve, I’ll let you get Jason’s out of the way right now. Jason, do you want a doughnut?”

Jason, new to the room, hardly knew what was going on. “Yes,” he said, “give me a doughnut.” “Steve will you do ten push-ups so that Jason can have a doughnut?”

Steve did ten push-ups very slowly and with great effort. Jason, bewildered, was handed a doughnut and sat down.

Dr. Christianson finished the fourth row, and then started on those visitors seated by the heaters. Steve’s arms were now shaking with each push-up in a struggle to lift himself against the force of gravity. By this time sweat was profusely dropping off of his face, there was no sound except his heavy breathing; there was not a dry eye in the room.

The very last two students in the room were two young women, both cheerleaders, and very popular.

Dr. Christianson went to Linda, the second to last, and asked, “Linda, do you want a doughnut?” Linda said very sadly, “No thank you”

Professor Christianson quietly asked, “Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Linda can have a doughnut she doesnt want?”

Grunting from the effort, Steve did ten very slow push-ups for Linda.
Then Dr. Christianson turned to the last girl, Susan. “Susan, do you want a doughnut?” Susan, with tears flowing down her face, began to cry. “Dr. Christianson, why cant I help him?”

Dr. Christianson, with tears of his own, said, “No, Steve has to do it alone; I have given him this task and he is in charge of seeing that everyone has an opportunity for a doughnut whether they want it or not. When I decided to have a party this last day of class, I looked at my grade book. Steve here is the only student with a perfect grade. Everyone else has failed a test, skipped class, or offered me inferior work. Steve told me that in football practice, when a player messes up he must do push-ups. I told Steve that none of you could come to my party unless he paid the price by doing your push ups. He and I made a deal for your sakes.”

“Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Susan can have a doughnut?”

As Steve very slowly finished his last push-up, with the understanding that he had accomplished all that was required of him, having done 350 push-ups, his arms buckled beneath him and he fell to the floor.

Dr. Christianson turned to the room and said, “And so it was, that our Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross, plead to the Father, ‘Into thy hands I commend my spirit.’ With the understanding that He had done everything that was required of Him, He yielded up His life. And like some of those in this room, many of us leave the gift on the desk, uneaten.”

Two students helped Steve up off the floor and to a seat, physically exhausted, but wearing a thin smile.

“Well done, good and faithful servant,” said the professor, adding, “Not all sermons are preached in words.”

Turning to his class, the professor said, “My wish is that you might understand and fully comprehend all the riches of grace and mercy that have been given to you through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He spared not His only Begotten Son, but gave Him up for us all, for the whole Church, now and forever. Whether or not we choose to accept His gift to us, the price has been paid.”

“Wouldn’t you be foolish and ungrateful to leave it lying on the desk?”
